CARL SARGEANT WELCOMES FUNDING BOOST FOR HIGH-SPEED BROADBAND

Alyn & Deeside AM Carl Sargeant today welcomed the news that £56.9m had been allocated to Wales from the UK Government for investment in broadband.
The Welsh Government has committed to ensuring that all residential premises and businesses in Wales have access to Next Generation Broadband by 2015, with the ambition that 50 per cent or more have access to 100Mbps.
The Welsh Government will now decide how to use the £56.9m to support the roll-out of broadband across the country. The Welsh Government is also seeking significant private sector investment towards this target as well as leveraging funding from the European Regional Development Fund.
Alyn & Deeside AM Carl Sargeant said:
“ There are still too many local areas that are not in receipt of high speed broadband connection, providing next generation broadband (NGB) to all homes and businesses is a key priority for the Welsh Government.
“The availability of robust high-speed broadband in the 21st century is essential for our businesses and residential properties in order for them to access services and the opportunities provided by digital technologies.”
