| Weaver Vale receives new Government investment to tackle local anti-social behaviour - Mike Hall MP | | Print | |
|
Weaver Vale is to be a beneficiary of the announcement from 20th November of extra funding from central Government to tackle anti-social behaviour– a move welcomed by local MP Mike Hall.Cheshire West & Chester Council is to receive an additional £44,000 due to its status as a ‘Crime & Justice’ Pioneer Area’, part of a £10 million package of measures from the Communities Department to support 130 local authorities across England in dealing with anti-social behaviour that blights their communities. This includes training and supporting an estimated 10,000 community champions and front line staff such as ASB co-ordinators, police and neighbourhood wardens to help shape local solutions, ensure they are better equipped to deal with the problems, and challenge authorities to make sure decisive action is taken. In welcoming the new funding Mike Hall MP said:-“This new investment clearly demonstrates that Labour is on the side of local communities in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour. I am pleased that Weaver Vale residents will benefit from the Government taking these tough and necessary measures.“I understand the misery anti-social behaviour can cause, and I know that the powers Labour has given to the police, councils and other agencies to tackle ASB achieves results. They have the support of local communities and make a real difference on cracking down on unacceptable behaviour.“I would urge the council, police and other local bodies working in partnership to meet the challenge set by Ministers to make full use of the powers - tackling not tolerating anti-social behaviour is a top Labour priority.“I know this extra funding will make a real difference to the lives of those residents in Weaver Vale whose lives are blighted by low-level disorder and anti-social behaviour.“This builds upon the measures announced in the Queen’s Speech, whereby the Government will legislate to protect our local communities by ensuring that parents take responsibility for their children’s antisocial behaviour and by tackling youth gang crime.”There will be publicity to make sure millions of residents know how to report anti-social behaviour so that communities know that they aren’t alone – the authorities have powers to tackle it. There will also be a specific targeted package for residents in social housing including a Housing ASB Action Squad and a binding Respect Standard for social landlords to tackle ASB.
