| ANNOUNCING YMUNO FESTIVAL 2011 - July 1st - 3rd, Ymuno Festival | | Print | |

Every once in a while, a new regular music event emerges, idealistic and innovative, looking to stage good music and bring good people together. They usually happen in the big cities - where music-lovers are spoiled for choice when it comes to exciting music events that cater to every taste and genre. In the past, North Wales wanted for a bit of that variety and musical exhibition; now it seems year-after-year we are now packing-out our summer schedule of live music and art events, until one summer soon we will be the envy of the city-folk, because our music events can happen in meadows and on cliff-tops and in old country halls and wide open spaces with a sea-view or a mountain backdrop! The festival scene in North Wales is expanding every year to cover all types of music – sometimes just a few friends start an event, joined by their love of the same type of music. It takes some bravery to pull it off, but fledgling events are emerging as new platforms for displaying all that is good about North Wales - none more so than Ymuno Festival, gearing up for its second annual event in July 2011.The Welsh word Ymuno eludes to a coming-together, being a part of something and joining-in.This funk and folk festival is lead by a local cooperative, currently busily carpeting the area with posters and flyers, hoping for an even greater success than last July's event at Hendre Hall, which drew hundreds from across Wales and the rest of the UK - who flocked to see the bands and soak up the sun but also to reconnect with friends and to bring like-minded people with them. The hope was that the long-distance friendships that many of us maintain via facebook, twitter etc would be given space to meet-up and re-connect in real-life, not just online - and it worked! It was a total gamble, spreading most advertising and selling most tickets through word-of-mouth. The first Ymuno Festival exceeded all expectations, show-casing local bands, with some bigger, international names thrown into the bill, and proved to be a warm, friendly and fun-filled weekend. The weekend of July 1st - 3rd, Ymuno Festival is back, with a new venue, even bigger-name bands and some creative ideas about how to showcase more than just music - with local organic food and drink producers, local jewellery and craft-types on show, and artistic and film displays by people connected-in to the Festival. The Ymuno Team is proud of its non-profit ethos: tickets are on-sale now for bargain prices(£55/£35) and numbers are limited intentionally, so that it does not become a huge, impersonal event but is kept small and cosy, with a safe atmosphere for families and friends, with a free community breakfast thrown into the ticket! The artists on this year's line-up include local singer/song-writer Chloe Leavers, the widely-acclaimed Foy Vance from Belfast and the Communion-label singer John Smith - but the Ymuno Team's main priority is their invitation to local people - to join them in inviting far-away friends who you'd love to spend a weekend camping with, listening to great music, while showing-off just how amazing this area is that you call home.www.ymuno.com/festival
