Graham Evans MP welcomes return of weekly bin collections
 
Weaver Vale MP Graham Evans has welcomed the news that Cheshire West & Chester Council are planning to reintroduce weekly bin collections in the old Vale Royal area when a new harmonised service is introduced next year.
 
Currently residents in the Weaver Vale constituency only receive rubbish or recycling collections once a fortnight, whereas residents in Chester have a weekly collection.
 
Households within the former Vale Royal and Ellesmere Port & Neston districts will continue to use their existing 55-litre boxes for recycling, although what is placed into each will change. A new 23-litre kitchen waste caddy will be delivered to each household for collection of kitchen waste; these containers will then all be collected weekly.
 
The existing brown wheeled bins will be collected as part of the transformation, a new 180-litre grey wheeled bin will be delivered for the collection of household waste, this bin will be collected on a fortnightly basis.
 
Graham Evans MP said: "I am pleased that Cheshire West & Chester Council have listened to the concerns expressed by local residents. Councils that cut back to a fortnightly system have experienced considerable problems including increases in the local rat population.
 
“This new proposed service with a weekly collection for domestic food waste and dry recycling is a big improvement for local residents who currently wait fortnightly for all collections.
 
“I am also delighted that the introduction of a single harmonised service will end the unacceptable situation of Council taxpayers in areas like Northwich, Weaverham and Frodsham subsidising superior services enjoyed by residents in Chester. Local taxpayers will now get a better service and significantly improved value-for-money"
