The International Guitar Festival on the Wirral during November 2011 |

Welcome to the 24th International Guitar Festival of Great Britain the oldest and largest annual guitar festival. This year the programme illuminates the breadth and scope of the guitar, highlighting its importance within every musical genre. With appearances from great artists, workshops and free concerts there really is something for everybody.
Featured artists this year include Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings, Bellowhead, Martin Taylor’s Gypsy Journey, Tony Remy & The Blues Experience and classical guitarist Xuefei Yang as well as the Katona Twins and The Impossible Gentlemen featuring the incredible Mike Walker and Mercury Prize nominated pianist, Gwilym Simcock.
A wide variety of guitar workshops takes place during the festival covering playing styles, guitar maintenance and detailed sessions on working within the music industry. A special concert featuring the Wirral Schools Jazz Orchestra and guitar virtuosi, Esmond Selwyn spotlights the vibrant musical youth within Wirral.
This is my first year as Guitar Festival Director and I wish to thank my predecessor, Rob Smith for leaving a vibrant and musically important festival for me to explore and sustain through the stormy economic times ahead; a challenge and a pleasure that I hope to uphold for at least another 24 years!
