Chester Music Society is pleased to announce its sponsorship of a new competition.

The Chester Young Composer Competition 2012 is open to young people aged 21 years of age or younger on 30 June 2012 and whose home address is within 40 miles “as the crow flies” of the City of Chester. There is no lower age limit. Entries must be from individuals only.

The Composition must be a choral work on a Christmas theme and the music must be entirely their own work.

The winning entry will be performed at The Chester Music Society Choir’s Christmas concerts on 17 and 18 December 2012.

Summer Concert:

"Just for Us" A Celebration of Choral Music written especially for Chester Music Society Youth Choir.
Over the last twenty years, the Youth Choir has amassed a large collection of works that have been especially written for them, and this concert will feature their favourites.

They will be performing the world premiere of the newest commission, Phillip Cooke's new work 'Far Away Music' with words from Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Graham, alongside extracts from Bob Chilcott's Peace Mass, and pieces by local composer, Brian Hughes.
