National Citizen Service (NCS) ‘Summer of a Lifetime’ 

National Citizen Service (NCS) is a Big Society initiative, supporting young people from all backgrounds to work together, take on new challenges and make a difference. NCS is a fun but challenging personal and social development programme which will help participants to become confident and socially active young adults.

The NCS ‘Summer of a Lifetime’ programme is a structured programme which consists of five distinct phases.

 Phase 1: The introductory phase will be set out expectations for the programme and begin to build relationships between young people and staff & volunteers

Phase 2: This phase will take place in an outdoor activity centre and will focus on team building and challenge as well as mixing with other young people from different part of the UK

Phase 3: The ‘home’ residential phase will take place at a local residential base and will concentrate on participant’s skills building on themes of personal and social development

Phase 4: Young people will research and design a community social action project in consultation with the local community in smaller teams

Phase 5: Young people will deliver their chosen project in the community. This phase is then concluded with an award presentation to reflect all that the young people have achieved during the summer
