PRESS RELEASEEveryone involved in St Michael and All Angels, Newton, Wirral, is getting ready for a Flower Festival in June. This is a flower festival with a difference as we have invited all the community groups that use the parish church centre to discover their creative talents and join us in celebrating our theme of The Movies. The church cleaning team is interpreting the movie ‘Brassed Off’, while the music group finds inspiration from ‘Singing in the Rain’. The children’s display will be literally taking off as they recreate the house from the cartoon film ‘Up’, complete with helium balloons.St Michael’s also prides itself on superb baking skills, so we hope everyone will stay for morning coffee, have a light lunch or indulge in an afternoon tea. There are activities for the children, ample free parking and admission is free as well.St Michael & All Angels Newton CH48 6EPFlower FestivalTheme: The MoviesThursday 16th June to Sunday 19th JuneOpening times:Friday 17th 10.30 am – 5pmSaturday 18th 10.30 am – 5pmSunday 19th 12noon - 4pmAdmission FreeImaginative displays Children’s Activities Gift StallMorning coffee Light Lunches Afternoon teasCoach Parties Welcome Free ParkingFor more details contact Jeanette Appleton t: 07768418942
Mothers Union Chester Events for 2011
News from Mothers’ Union Diocese of Chester: 160 knitted breasts to support new mothersFour weeks ago Clair Whitehead, Infant feeding Co-ordinator for the local NHS Wirral needed 160 knitted breasts for her team of Midwives and Health Visitors, to help teach new mothers how to express breast milk. When Jeanette Appleton of the Mothers’ Union heard about this she got together her team of members and also recruited some friends and they got knitting. Jeanette even went the Roger Phillips show on Radio Merseyside to recruit more knitters. One month later she was able to deliver the last of the 160 knitted breasts to Amanda Pyke at NHS Wirral with Mothers Union member Audrey Leatham. When Jeanette first heard what they wanted she checked the calendar to make sure it wasn’t April 1st. But the Infant Feeding Team explained how the latex models they had used cost £35 each and this was too expensive at this time of cut backs. “We were only too happy to put our knitting skills to such a good cause.” said Jeanette “People have been very generous with their time and talents. Thanks to the radio appeal I have had bags of knitted breasts delivered to where I work in Birkenhead. I have also come home to find another bag of knitting by the front door. I would like to thank everyone who has been part of this project.”
