THE WIRRAL FESTIVAL OF FIRSTS 8th-10th July, Hoylake - 15th-17th July, Oxton | Print |

8th-10th July, Hoylake

15th-17th July, Oxton

The brainchild of poet and former Scaffold member John Gorman, THE WIRRAL FESTIVAL OF FIRSTS will be the biggest cultural event the peninsula has seen, with premiere performances of plays, poems and musical works featuring hundreds of prominent local acts.

There will also be some record-breaking attempts, with the most people reciting ‘To Be Or Not To Be’ in one place!

THE FESTIVAL LINE-UP

MUSIC PROM (Saturday 9th July). Wirral’s first ever Proms. Performers, from pop, rock, folk and choirs to orchestral concerts will be on show in venues throughout the town. We’ll also have some fun music workshops for children.

ART PROM (Sunday 10th July) will see the World’s Longest Art Exhibition displayed along Hoylake Promenade, an ArtTrail from Meols Station to Hoylake Station, and Gallery Hoylake, which aims to turn the entire town into an art gallery during the week before and after the festival itself. You’ll also find artists travelling on public transport with pieces of art, with Art on the Move in the run-up to the Festival.

POETRY PROM (Sunday 10th July) is the world’s first Poetry Prom. A unique event, where every suitable space will feature live poetry readings. In addition, a national Poetry Competition is open to all – see www.festivaloffirsts.co.uk for details – with the winner announced on Poetry Prom day.

THEATRE PROM brings world premieres of two plays and a musical to Hoylake, and incorporates Wirral’s first Shakespeare Season (throughout the summer). Local and touring productions will take part.

“The idea of FIRSTS is to do something for the first time in Wirral, for the North West and for the world”

– John Gorman, Festival Director
