The PELICAN 10 Commonhall Street Launches in Chester
A Wonderful Bird is the Pelican…
The new Pelican restaurant on Commonhall Street gives diners the opportunity to enjoy fresh fish and seafood in the heart of Chester .
The Pelican Restaurant and Bar has now landed at 10 Commonhall Street in Chester and will feature seafood, fresh local produce and a refreshingly unique range of wine, Champagne and cocktails. The recent launch event on July 8th was well attended and will doubtless be remembered as a highlight of the summer season in Chester.
The brains behind the Pelican are Chester residents and avid food and wine enthusiasts Ben and Coleen Little, who have recently taken over the running of this well-loved venue, which is still known to many as Got Wine.
At the Pelican, Ben and Coleen are creating an inspiring fusion cuisine, bringing together the flavours and ideas they have experienced in their culinary travels and the abundant local fresh ingredients that the Cheshire plain and regional coastline have to offer. As fish and seafood lovers themselves, they will offer Chester residents and visitors some truly inspirational seafood dishes, that have developed from the ingenious imagination of Head Chef Jamie Leon - who is busily experimenting in the kitchen to get the best out of what Cheshire has to offer.
The Pelican has inside dining space for 70-80 covers including a private dining room with its own bar which can be separately hired for functions, business events or even small weddings. There is also a wine and cocktail bar with an extensive range of beer, wine, Champagne and cocktails on offer; and an outside garden and dining area with seated dining capacity for 40-50 and some more relaxed sofa areas where one can enjoy the summer sun - which together make up one of the largest outside terrace areas in the areas in the centre of Chester.
Fitting in the launch around the Chester Races and the World Cup, has been tricky, but with the new menu in place and the recent beautiful weather encouraging visitors to take advantage of the gorgeous outside area, The Pelican has well and truly landed.
Asked what inspired the choice of name, Coleen quoted Dixie Lanire Merrith, an American Poet who penned this verse in 1910:
A wonderful bird is the pelican
His bill will hold more than his belican.
He can take in his beak, food enough for a week,
But I’m damned if I see how the helican.
“It’s a bit of fun that gives us an easily recognisable icon that I hope people will remember,” says Coleen.” And with the references to food that the poem contains, we hope it will re-enforce our focus on food in people’s minds”.
