Show prepares to celebrate its 175th anniversary
As Cheshire Agricultural society celebrates its 175th anniversary organisers of the Cheshire County Show are gearing up for what promises to be another action-packed event on June 18 and 19.
With its roots firmly embedded in Cheshire’s rich farming history the main focus of the show will once again be the thousands of animals including livestock, horses and dogs in competition.
The Sainsbury’s Agri-Centre will also keep the show’s agricultural heritage alive with the wider public as members of the county’s farming community demonstrate the methods used to get milk, cheese, meat and other foodstuffs on to supermarket shelves.
In addition to the animals the public will get the chance see a variety of rural past times including falconry, ferreting and a pack of hounds in the Countryside Experience Area.
A thrilling schedule is planned for the main ring where attractions will include a heart-stopping display by one of the World’s leading stunt motorcyclists Matt Coulter AKA ‘The Kangaroo Kid’ and stirring live music from the Scots Guard Association Pipe and Drum Band Back who return by popular demand.
Visitors will also be able to sample to culinary delights of the Roberts Speciality Food Hall, where over a hundred food producers from Cheshire and across the UK are expected display tasty treats.
In the Roberts Speciality Food Live Theatre some of the North West’s top food experts including Simon Rimmer, Claire Lara, Nigel Haworth and Sean Wilson will give live cookery demonstrations showing how to produce a range of delicious dishes.
Expected to attract 80,000 visitors as ever we are planning another action-packed couple of days for all our visitors.

If you want to experience and celebrate all that is great and good about the countryside then the Cheshire County Show is the only place to be as it brings together the many interesting and fascinating aspects of farming and rural life in Cheshire.

Visitors and members of the agricultural community come together in the ever popular Agricultural Centre marquee, as it explains the journey of food within its theme of ‘Plough to Plate’. From live demonstrations of milking cows and feeding calves to butchery demonstrations and ice-cream making, right through to the environmental matters that are considered in food production, the Agricultural Centre is a must see.

We know that the livestock and animals at ‘the Cheshire’ are for so many one, of the main reasons to visit and we know from feedback we never disappoint. As local and regional farmers compete to win the coveted title of ‘Supreme Champion, a wide range of cattle can be seen on show days, from the impressive mass of the Hereford Bull and British Blue to the petit Dexter’s and the familiar black and white of the Holstein dairy cattle.

Sheep, Goats, Pigs and Rare Breed livestock are always well represented at the show in the many competition classes. With the piglets proving particularly popular with visitors young and old alike.

From Shires to Shetlands, Show jumpers to Show ponies, equines are a strong feature of the show in all their spectacular splendor.

The Cheshire County Show Poultry section which takes place on the Tuesday only now enjoys championship status and is a must see for poultry enthusiasts.

Pigeons, Rabbits and Cavies aplenty can be found on the Wednesday only as they compete in the many classes held at the show.

The prestigious Cheshire Show Dog section attracts over 2000 entries from across a vast array of breeds. Tuesday sees classes for Non-Sporting Breeds only, whilst Wednesday is for Sporting Breeds only.

Food lovers always flock to The Roberts Bakery Food Halls as they bring together local, regional and national producers and purveyors of fine food and drink to suit everyone’s tastes, whilst the Roberts Bakery Food Live Theatre enables visitors to enjoy some tremendous food edu-tainment from local Cheshire chefs and college students.

With the Cheese and Wine marquee alongside the Roberts Bakery Food Halls, it is just a short trip to see the delights of the many cheese producers and wine makers of the county and beyond.

The Rural Life area includes the Cheshire Federation of Women’s Institutes marquee which never fails to impress visitors with the high standard of the hundreds of entries to the many classes of crafts, ranging from cake making, floral art, produce making through to art and photography and much more. Celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2010, the Cheshire WI competition will this year carry the theme of ‘A Brilliant Past, A Bright Future’.

Adjoining the Cheshire WI marquee is the Cheshire Area of NAFAS, which hosts a prestigious series of competitions based around flower arranging. This year’s theme of ‘Leisure Time’ promises to provide some exciting floral interpretation to delight the many thousands of visitors to the show.

The Rural Life area also includes the Schools Out marquee which showcases some of the many schools and educational attractions across the county, whilst the NFU education marquee provides a fascinating insight into farming and includes the now famous and ever popular chick hatchery.

Conservation matters are presented within the Cheshire Landscape Trust marquee by the many organisations concerned with the conservation of Cheshire’s wildlife, unique landscape and habitat.

The schools musical entertainment programme, which takes place over the two days, is performed on the bandstand which is set within the heart of the rural life area and allows visitors time to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the show and relax on the grassy banks overlooking the bandstand.

The Vintage Machinery section re-counts a bygone era with an extensive display of tractors, agricultural machinery, stationary engines, cars and commercial vehicles of yesteryear.

Country pursuits and traditional crafts come to life in the Cheshire West and Chester Countryside Experience Area. From falconry demonstrations, have ago Clay Shoot and Archery, to fly-fishing demonstrations and parades of hounds, it’s a real haven for country lovers.

The Main Ring programme is always designed to deliver tremendous thrills and spills but also showcases the best of the best in the impressive Grand Parade.

The Kangaroo Kid Stunt Motorcycle Display
 World famous Australian stunt motorcyclist Matt Coulter AKA ‘The Kangaroo Kid’ will return from a four year break to bring his brand new action packed UK tour to the Cheshire County Show.
The show will see Matt team up with his son Sam for an exciting and dynamic performance including a range of daring jumps, wheelies and roll-overs.
Visitors fly high with birds of prey
 Show goers will be captivated by some of the world’s most stunning birds of prey, which will be soaring over the Main Ring at the Cheshire Show.

Gauntlet Birds of Prey, Eagle and Vulture Park, at Knutsford, is Cheshire's original and largest falconry centre, with the biggest collection of birds of prey in the North West.

Graham Bessant owner of Gauntlet Birds of Prey will display some of the centre’s large collection of eagles, vultures, falcons, kites, hawks and owls in full flight with commentary.
Roberts Speciality Food Hall
 To sustain energy levels at the Cheshire Show, a trip to the Roberts Bakery Food Hall and Food Live Theatre is a must to sample the hundreds of tasty treats on offer. Whether it’s sweet or savoury, food or drink, British or Brazilian – there is something for every taste!
Roberts Speciality Food Live Theatre
 The popular Roberts Speciality Food Live Theatre will include live cookery demonstrations from some the country’s top chefs.
Amongst the list of top food experts from across the North West showing how to produce a range of delicious dishes will be Simon Rimmer on the Tuesday and Nigel Haworth on the Wednesday.
Brian Mellor and Sean Wilson  and Masterchef: The Professionals winner Claire Lara will also be creating culinary delights on both days of the show.
Countryside Experience Area
 Members of the public can try their hand at a variety of rural pastimes in a special area of the show dedicated to countryside life.

From the ancient art of archery, to clay shooting and fly casting, visitors will be able to have a go at traditional rural activities in the Countryside Experience area.

New to the area this year is a 4x4 experience where visitors will be able to experience the thrill of driving off road.
Scots Guard Association Pipe and Drum Band
 Back by popular demand...visitors will be treated to stirring live music from the Scots Guard Association Pipe and Drum Band.
Dog Show
 Dog lovers will get a real treat as almost 2,000 dogs from as far and wide as Essex and Aberdeen come to compete at the show. This year the public can expect to see a wide range of breeds from Briard’s to German Shorthaired pointers competing for the coveted title of best in show.
Gun Dogs

Vintage machinery parade
 Don’t miss this fantastic collection of vintage machinery at the show. Exhibits include tractors, cars and commercial vehicles.
Pony Club Games
 Watch out for the thrills and spills of the pony club games in the main ring arena on both days of the show. Young riders will show their riding skills as they compete in a number of relay race courses set up to test their horsemanship.
Traditional Fun Fair
 The Traditional fun fair provides a carousel and other serene rides that provide the perfect entertainment for families with young children.
Sainsbury’s Agri-centre
 The Sainsbury's Agri Centre is a focal point of the Cheshire Show, where visitors and the agricultural community come together.

Nuffield Tractor

Visitors to the Sainsbury's Agri Centre are taken along a food journey from ‘Plough to Plate’, which includes beef and dairy farmers, butchers, cheese makers, feed and equipment suppliers, professional services and many more businesses related to the journey of where your food really comes from.
W.I. section
 The Cheshire Federation of Women’s Institutes has its own dedicated marquee at the show including a superb display of craft, cookery, preserves, flower arrangements, paintings and photography to delight visitors.

The theme of the marquee this year is town and country.
NAFAS
 For 27 years the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies has managed the stunning floral marquee at the show. As well as stunning floral displays visitors can also enjoy a range of flower arrangement demonstrations and children’s ‘hand’s on’ practical sessions throughout both days of the show.
Village Green
 The Village Green Sponsored by MPM Catering is an area where you can escape the hustle and bustle, relax, enjoy a bite to eat and listen to various musical performances.

Performers will include the Sandbach UA3 Brass Band, The Jill Fielding Band, A quintet of the RAF Band and Ceolta – a local band playing traditional Irish music and song. The musical programme starts at 10.45 on each day.
Horse Show
 Each year thousands of Shires and Light horses come to compete at the show and are always a real favourite with the crowds. Riders from across the UK will compete in one of the largest light horse sections of any county show in the country, which includes regional qualifiers for the Horse of the Year Show.
