Romans will dominate the city for the whole weekend….will you be one of them?
After the success of 2010’s Roman weekend this event is returning but has tripled in size!
100’s of Roman’s from all over Europe will be descending on Chester for a full weekend of activity, including Gladiatorial Roman Games, a working Roman village, original Roman Kids Army, Military Displays and the Roman March through the city centre.
Become part of the crowd in our brand new seating around the Amphitheatre and watch the displays and fights as they unfold in front of your very eyes.
Largest Roman Military Parade in Britain Reconstructed Roman Village in Grosvenor Park Music, Dance and Death, at the gladiator games featuring the Bear Children’s army, Sign up at the command post Living history and period craft displays Exhibition of art and excavated artefacts by Chester City archaeologists Dance and music presentations from across the Empire presented by Ya Raqs Warriors of ancient Briton (Celts) Best selling authors Ben Kane and Ruth Downie at Grosvenor Museum
TIMETABLE 10.30hrs - Roman living history camp, exhibitions, dance and music performances open at Grosvenor Park.
12.00hrs - Fantastic spectacle of massed Roman military in full armour marching through the city starting at St John’s Church.
13.00hrs - 400 years of Celts and Romans. Dramatic displays of weapons, armour and Military might of Rome’s Legions. Displays at amphitheatre and Grosvenor park
15.30hrs - Let the games begin - Gladiators and beast fights music, dance and death. Amphitheatre
17.00hrs - Dedications to the Gods.
Event closes at 6pm on Saturday and 5pm on Sunday.
Outdoor Cinema 6th - 24th June
Chester Festivals is going to the movies and you can join us too!
Come and experience the magical atmosphere of watching a film in the outdoors and in Chester’s very own, special and unique venue, the Amphitheatre.
A large screen will be showing films for all tastes and ages. Come and see your favourite films in the open air with family and friends, a truly unique experience.
There's a choice of seats... either take a seat in the bowl of the amphitheatre that we'll have set up for you, or sit in the 'pinic area' on the grass banks, where you can bring your own blankets and chairs. Either way, feel free to bring your picnic baskets full of movie snacks!

Did you know that Chester has a history of Giant making? Giants from all over the world will create the tallest parade and carnival, one for the cameras and all the family.
Chester Mystery Plays 17th - 19th June

The Mystery Players are back in 2011 with their second miniature play in the Chestival series, this time it’s back to the beginning.
As usual there is plenty of song, dance and spectacle. Taking place after the colourful Midsummerwatch Parade, it’s the perfect end to a spectacular FREE day out for the family in Chester.

The popular celebrity speaker events will make a welcome return to this years festival, this is your chance to get up close and personal with some of the UK’s famous faces and ask them questions! This year, world renowned designer Wayne Hemingway and TV and radio presenter and journalist Stuart Maconie join MBNA Chestival, giving you a flavour of the Shell Chester Literature Festival this October.

Chester Summer Music Festival 1st -16th July
This year the Festival with its signature vocal theme also focuses on the violin. The eclectic programme covers classical, jazz, cabaret and folk, boasting international superstars, plus up-and-coming artists. British music also features, culminating in a grand finale full of Great British masterpieces.
